Monsall Trail, Derbyshire

25 July 2010 9.25 Miles

The Club's Annual Coach Ramble made an overdue return to the Derbyshire Dales. On a fair but blustery day our group set off at an easy pace from Millers Dale along the Trail to Litton Mill. The tunnel closure here enabled us to enjoy the permissive path along the bank of the river Wye as far as Cressbrook Mill before we reconnected with the trail and on to Monsall Head. A short but severe climb to the Hotel here, was rewarded with lunch, time to relax and take in the superb views.

The walk remained easy as it continued thro' Little Longstone. A footpath here, across local fields, re-connected us with the trail proper again and a mid afternoon stop at the nicely re-furbished Hassop station refreshed everyone enough to continue to the end of the trail at Coombs Rd. viaduct.

Local footpaths then took us to Bakewell. The walk was approx. 9.25 miles linear so it was a tired but contented group who boarded the Coach for return to the West Midlands.
