The Yardley and District Rambling Club is affiliated to the RAMBLERS ASSOCIATION.
About the YDRC
The club was formed in 1980 by George Bates and today has an active membership of around 50. An invitation for walkers to join the YDRC appeared in Jack Schats column (Weekend Walks) of The Birmingham Evening Mail on Saturday January 19, 1980. Following the response, a new group of walkers met on the 27th January 1980 for a 7 mile walk in the Hampton in Arden area.
The inaugural meeting of the YDRC was held on 25th February 1980. We are a friendly club and always welcome new members of all ages. If you are interested, please e-mail or call for further information.
2005 was the club's 25th Anniversary year and we arranged a walk and lunch at the West Midland Golf Club - Barston Restaurant. As usual a good day was had by all.
We organise a varied programme of walks averaging 7 to 10 miles, on alternate Sundays, in different areas of our Midland countryside. Other events include:-
- a club weekend (in the autumn).
- an annual coach ramble.
- an annual 5-day holiday (usually in Spring).
- Various social events.
We are a sociable group and our walk leaders will invariably arrange a lunchtime break at a convenient Inn or public house for refreshments. Please bring a packed lunch as we have to limit this break to approx. 1 hour.
Prospective members are very welcome and may attend up to three walks before being required to join the club. Our annual subscription for 2008 is £8.
'Strollers' : The 'strollers' is an additional event which the club organises. It is for members (and newcomers) who are free for a Ramble on an occasional day during the week. These events are arranged (usually) on the 4th Tuesday of each month to various venues, far and near.
Ladies night out - a get together at a selected venue for a meal and a chat.
Men's day out - walk or visit calling at a number of real ale establishments.
